The Heart and Soul of Alegría.

Visit any of the great old cities and towns in Europe, and at the heart of them you’ll find the plaza. This is the place where people come together for the necessities of life, as well as the celebrations and festivals. Costa Rica has carried this tradition for centuries, from the colonial plazas in the cities to the simple soccer fields in the smallest of villages. Whether the architecture is grand or simple, the plaza is where you’ll find the heart and soul of any community, along with the latest news and freshest produce. 

Secured within Alegria’s garden walls, the Village Plaza will be an irresistible gathering place for residents and visitors alike. Residents will enjoy the luxury of having the plaza in their backyard, but knowing that the privacy of their homes is gated and secured.  Outdoor cafés and bistros will share the pedestrian area with working art studios, galleries and artisan boutiques. Tropical flowers and the fresh-brewed Costa Rican coffee will scent the air, accompanied by the tranquil sounds of fountains and birdsong.

The plaza will be home to the Alegria Center for the Arts, a non-profit foundation that supports the community’s Artist-in-Residence program, as well as The Gallery, a permanent collection of fine art produced under the auspices of the foundation. Above the shops and bistros, a distinguished community of Costa Rican artists will live and work, providing many opportunities for workshops and exhibitions.

The necessities of life will also have their place in the plaza. A fresh market will provide locally grown fruits, vegetables and flowers along with locally caught fish and seafood. A small grocery, pharmacy and bank will provide for most of the other necessities of life.
