The Alegria Center for the Arts Group was born with the spirit of integrate within its field of action and work the the development of our artistic expressions, establishing a dialog with artists and managers of the art. Parallel, they have compromised themselfs with activities, actions or thoughts that look for the defense of our natural patrimony.
The conjunction of the previous is motive for the Alegria Center for the Arts, taking conscience of which the topic of the landscape has been dominant in the artistic Costa Rican expression, proposes a contest in forms of the landscape that curiously with few exceptions, has not been deepened yet: the humid Costa Rican landscape.
Historically, and of there the spirit of this first contest, the painting and other two-dimensional means have incorporated into fabrics and papers zones of the country associated with the conception identitaria that takes as a foundation an image idealized of the Central Valley. This painting is amused in clear skies and summer luminosities, spaces in which the vernacular architecture, inheritance of the colonial past, occupies an out-standing place.
Inside this frame, the aim of the Contest of photography: humid Costa Rican landscape is to explore, to announce and to consider, in photographic images, its particularities: zones and regions, flora and fauna, atmospheric phenomena and climatic conditions: dense fogs, evenings and mornings of clouds and drizzles, everything which is a potential yet for examining from the perspective plastic - aesthetics.
BASES OF THE CONTEST:
1. The topic of the works must be that of the humid national landscape in its multiple manifestations.
2. There will be able to participate Costa Rican and foreign resident artists, with a maximum of three pieces per participant.
3. The artista will be able to participate with color or Black and White photographies in the analogical and digital categories, in good condition of conservation. The organization of the photos and its presentation for the exhibition will be done depending on these categories.
4. The photos must have a minimum size of 24,5cm x 28cm and a maximum of 130cm x 130cm. It must specified when a work is in sections or segments that together form a unit.
5. The work must be unpublished or produced Turing the year 2008 and 2009.
6. The contestant must have participated in collective exhibitions and to have at least one eshibition to his/her credit.
7. The participants must present each work with a specified referense card, a summary resume (maximum two pages) and a personal written commentary regarding to the aspects and thecnical details and discursive pertinet relative to the work.
8. The selection of the work will be done by a jury, composed by natives and/or foreigns of recognised path in the artistic way.
9. The work must be prensented Reddy- with all the necessary attachments- for its exhibition.
10. The transfer, sending or return of the work runs at the expense of the artista.
11. The organizing committee reserves the right of interpretation of the bases of the summons.
12. The not acceptance of any of the bases annuls the participation in the event.
13. The juror will have the right to accept or decline the photos in the contest and its veredict will be inappealable.
14. The decision of the juror will be for simple majority.
15. The photos will be for sale, with a 50% for the artista and 50% for the Potrero School in Santa Cruz.
