Heliconias Rainforest & Hanging Bridges

The Closest Rainforest to Guanacaste Low Lands
Located on the foothills of the Tenorio Volcano, this 2200 meter long trail is a two-hour hike with scenic stops that overlook huge trees and the surrounding forest. Walk over four bridges through the forest canopy for a towering view of tropical birds, butterflies, and bromeliads. After the walk, enjoy lunch against the background of beautiful Miravalles Volcano and the Nicaragua Lake.

Palo Verde Nature Cruise
After a guided scenic drive through Sabanero (cowboy) Country, enjoy a two hour cruise on the Tempisque River, the nearest access to the world famous Palo Verde National Park and home to hundreds of migrating water birds. Don’t be surprised if you see monkeys, scarlet macaws, iguanas, crocodiles, caimans and occasionally smaller mammals on the riverbanks.

Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs

Enjoy a drive through some extraordinary pastoral landscape and quaint villages on the way past Lake Arenal to the volcano area. Then, embark on a guided nature walk to a look out point to observe the magnificent volcano. You can visit a waterfall, ride horseback through the hills, or take a thrill-ride on a zip line through the tree tops. Afterwards, soothe and relax your tired muscles in the area's hot springs before dinner, and (if you are lucky) watch the nighttime show of lava from one of the area hotel's view points. The next morning, you might want to check out the little shops in nearby La Fortuna, and then enjoy one of the great little restaurants in Nuevo Arenal on the drive back to Flamingo.

Canopy Tours

Canopy tours allow you to glide from platform to platform while observing the flora and fauna under your feet. There are a number of different places you can experience canopy tours, but biological reserves offer the best opportunities to see wildlife. Monteverde and Iguana Park are home to the original canopy tours, and offer two hours of exhilaration above the treetops. As mentioned above, there are zip lines, or Canopy Tours available in the Arenal/LaFortuna area.

Barra Honda Caves Expedition

Take a guided tour through the unique Barra Honda National Park. Exploration starts in the tropical dry forest by either hiking or on horseback up to the entrance of the caves. As you descend into the caves you experience a surrealist underground setting, characterized by the melodic sound of echoing drops. Afterward, enjoy lunch and visit the Guaitil Indigenous Artisans Village where you can actually see the beautiful pottery being made.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour

This full day expedition features a guided visit to Monteverde Cloud Forest, located on the Tilarán mountain range. Upon arrival, join your guide for a nature walk through the cloud forest, characterized by different exotic plants and animals. More than 2,000 species of plants, 400 species of birds, and 100 different species of mammals inhabit this area.  Afterwards, enjoy lunch and a visit to the Sky Walk, a complex of suspended bridges, platforms and paths, built within the Cloud Forest.

Horseback Riding Tours

This tour combines an exhilarating horseback riding adventure with unique natural settings on either coastline or in the mountains, depending on your preference. Ride alongside the mangroves while being surrounded by howler monkeys, parrots and diverse aquatic birds. Or join an expedition to the slopes of the Rincón De La Vieja Volcano. If you choose to keep a horse in here in Costa Rica, there is the Flamingo Equestrian Center located about five minutes from the property. It is run by prize-winning management, and is home to many of the permanent resident’s horses.
