Flamingo. The most coveted setting in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica.
A Place You’ll Want to Call Home.

National Geographic calls it one of the most biologically intense places on earth. Naturalists consider it one of the richest nations in the world with regard to biodiversity. Most people will simply tell you it’s beautiful – full of amazing sights and sounds. Those who really know Costa Rica will tell you about the people.

Friendly, gracious and hardworking, Costa Ricans have created one of the most stable and peaceful democracies in the world. Throughout history, Costa Rica has been the place that others passed through on their way to some place better. Those who stayed, had to work hard to survive. Egalitarianism was the natural consequence.

Without a landed aristocracy, Costa Ricans have always shared an innate sense of equality and fairness. How else do you explain a country that abolished its own army and has lived without one since 1949? The love for democracy is perhaps the single most defining attribute of native Costa Ricans, second only to the warmth of their smiles.

Without an army to support, Costa Rica has made record achievements in education and healthcare. Literacy rates have climbed to 97%, one of the highest in the world, and longevity is now higher than that of the United States: a healthy 77 years! Medical care and hospital facilities are considered to be on par with those in North America.

Per capita, Costa Rica has become home to more Americans than any other country outside of the U.S. It is particularly interesting to note that very few Costa Ricans emigrate to the U.S. or any other country for that matter. One would have to conclude that the near perfect climate, the low violent-crime rate, and a stable democratic government would have to have something to do with this.

While still considered part of the Third World, Costa Rica has created one of the highest standards of living in Latin America. It remains committed to reducing poverty, conserving its natural resources, and welcoming a global economy.
