Beach Hopping.

Bahía Potrero
About 200 yards from Alegria, the beach at Potrero Bay offers the most desirable water for swimming in all of Guanacaste. The waves are gentle, and there are no riptides or undertow. The crescent-shaped beach is about two and a half miles long and is perfect for walking and jogging. The calm waters are ideal for kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving, especially around the Catalina Islands.

Playa Flamingo
One of the first beaches to develop in Guanacaste, Flamingo Beach is flanked by an established and upscale residential neighborhood perched on a rocky fortress-like headland overlooking Flamingo’s white sands. The headland separates Flamingo Beach from the calm waters of Potrero Bay. Flamingo Beach is about 880 yards from Alegria.

Playa Brasilito
Continuing south from Flamingo Beach, Brasilito Beach adds another four miles of sand and surf. Until recently, the small fishing village of Brasilito was virtually unknown to tourists.

Osa Peninsula - Corcovado
The central Pacific beaches of Jaco and Manuel Antonio are perhaps the most popular beach towns, because of their proximity to San Jose. The more remote Osa Peninsula backs up to the deep rainforest of Corcovado, with plenty of scenery for nature lovers.

Playa Hermosa
A small, protected bay about 7 km north of Coco makes this a good place to swim and enjoy the sand. Playa Hermosa is also home to a number of restaurants that are right on the beach as well as dive shops and equipment rentals (snorkeling equipment, sea kayaks, etc.) Playa Hermosa is also home to one of Costa Rica's most famous scuba diving companies - "Bill Beards Diving Safaris.”

Playa del Coco / Ocotal
The small, well-protected bay of Ocotal is part sand and part natural rock. The neighboring beaches and villages of Playa de Coco and Playa Hermosa are 10 to 20 minutes away. This is a hot spot for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and surfing.

Playa Tamarindo
The long bay of Tamarindo with its pearl colored sand beaches is an ideal place for swimming and extended beach walks.

Playa Avellanas, Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica Playa Avellanas
Located a few kilometers north of Nosara and south of Tamarindo, Playa Avellanas is well known for its long running waves and ideal surfing conditions.

Playa Junquillal, Guanacaste, Nicoya Peninsula,
Costa Rica Playa Junquillal
Playa Junquillal is one of the country’s most secluded beaches - the village itself consists only of a few houses; The shimmering grey sand beach with high waves make for good surfing.

Playa Guiones, Nosara Playa Nosara
Playa Nosara actually consists of two beaches: Playa Pelada and Playa Guiones. Both are cream-colored sand beaches, have excellent waves and are ideal for surfing and swimming. Other activities include horseback riding, snorkeling, and turtle watching on the neighboring Playa Ostional.

Playa Samara
Playa Sámara is one of the nicest beaches on the Nicoya Peninsula. Not only is it wide, beautiful and sandy, but also very safe for swimming as a coral reef protects the coast from waves and currents. Snorkeling, windsurfing and diving are some of the popular water sports in this area. The vacation homes of many wealthy Costa Ricans dot the landscape.

Playa Islita, Costa Rica Playa Islita
Located on the northwest coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, this is where the 5-star hotel Punta Islita is situated. Rooms are built upon a gentle knoll nestled up against the mountains with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean.

Playa Tambor, Costa Rica Playa Tambor
This long beach with a fine light gray sand, located 18 km southwest of Paquera is protected by the wide Bahía Ballena which makes it perfect for swimming or long walks along the shore.
