Three beaches.
Inspired Living Every Day.
For beach lovers, Alegria occupies a very unique position. There are three main beaches within an easy and gentle walk from your doorstep. There are no steep hillsides to climb down, and you won’t need a golf cart or a car to get there. And best of all, you have the luxury of choice: will you head for the ocean and the crashing surf of Playa Flamingo and Playa Brasilito, or will you take to the calm waters of Bahía Potrero?
Bahía Potrero
About 200 yards from Alegria, the beach at Potrero Bay offers the most desirable water for swimming in all of Guanacaste. The waves are gentle, and there are no riptides or undertow. The crescent-shaped beach (formed by a sunken crater) is about two and a half miles long and is perfect for walking and jogging. The calm waters are ideal for kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving, especially around the Catalina Islands. Potrero is a favorite destination for sport fishing and yachting. Come sunset, there’s nothing better than watching the boats come into the marina from one of the area’s fine restaurants.
Playa Flamingo
One of the first beaches to develop in Guanacaste, Flamingo Beach is flanked by an established and upscale residential neighborhood perched on a rocky fortress-like headland overlooking Flamingo’s white sands. The headland separates Flamingo Beach from the calm waters of Potrero Bay. The Flamingo area has been closely held by Costa Rican families for over 30 years. Consequently, the recent flurry of real estate development has largely by-passed this sleepy coastal town, preserving its traditions and dignified character. Flamingo Beach is about 880 yards from Alegria.
Playa Brasilito
Continuing south from Flamingo Beach, Brasilito Beach adds another 4 miles of sand and surf. Until recently, the small fishing village of Brasilito was virtually unknown to tourists. While unassuming and modest from the outside, some of the area’s best restaurants are gathered around the village soccer field.
More Beaches
Dozens of pristine beaches are within easy reach of Alegria by mountain bike, sea kayak or jeep. Dozens of secluded coves await your discovery. Each one is unique, from the shade trees that line the sands of Playa Prieta, to the black sands of Playa Penca. Don’t be surprised if you have the whole place to yourself!
